Global Green Destinations Days 2021 online

Sustainability as a journey for destinations and countries.

The 6th edition of the Global Green Destinations Days will be taking place from 4th to 7th October 2021 and just like last year, this free event is brought to you directly, wherever you are.

The annual flagship event of Green Destinations is connecting destination managers, regional and national tourism agencies and tourism boards through showcasing their good practices of sustainable destination management. The 4 day event offers a global platform to foster peer-to-peer learning, discovering initiatives, practical tools, and strategic solutions that destination managers can learn from, take away and implement.

The event will span across 4 thematic days:
Day 1 – National Strategies for Sustainable Tourism
Day 2 – Nature, Culture and Overtourism
Day 3 – Reducing Tourism’s Impact on the Planet
Day 4 – New Tools & Regenerative Tourism

This interactive event will line up speakers from over 20 countries and 6 continents, provide panel discussions, ceremonies, workshops, and tools for the most pressing challenges of tourism management, in the shadow of the climate crisis and the growing pressure on countries and regions to present solutions for the COP26 and beyond.

Each thematic day will include a Panel with presentations and a discussion with the speakers.
Participants are encouraged to join the conversation and interact during the Q&A and the
networking sessions.

Two workshops will bring real life examples to introduce the SDGs & Tourism Assessment & Reset Tool to assess and address a wider range of issues facing destinations, allowing to create a suitable roadmap towards a more resilient and sustainable tourism. This tool helps to identify the main strengths, weaknesses and opportunities of destinations in relation to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, the GSTC Standard, the Green Destination Standard and the Future of Tourism Coalition’s Guiding Principles. The Climate Emergency Workshop will focus on the climate actions offered by this tool, while the Reset & Recovery Workshop will provide latest insights on tourism reset and recovery.

The highlight of the event will be the ‘Green Destinations Awards & Certification Ceremony’ rewording the newly awarded destinations who have already reached significant milestones in their sustainability journey. The ‘2021 Top 100 Destination Sustainability Stories’ ceremony will hold excitement to the audience and to all the destinations who were nominated to the
competition, unveiling the 100 best good practice stories of the year.

Green Destinations is a non-profit foundation for sustainable destination development and recognition, leading a global community of 400+ destinations and a partnership of representatives, expert organisations and academic institutions.
