Greece is doubling “Golden Visa” in certain regions

The eastern and western suburbs of Athens, as well as Piraeus, are excluded from the limit of 500,000 euros, while the northern and southern suburbs of Attica are included.

A new legislation about the Golden Visa is expected to be voted by the government next week in the Greek Parliament, which will provide for the imposition of a limit of 500,000 euros to secure a residence permit through the "Golden Visa" program, in areas such as Mykonos, Santorini and Thessaloniki, according to the Greek Deputy Minister of Development and Investments Mr. Nikos Papathanasis.

Regarding Attica Mr. Papathanasis pointed out that the eastern and western suburbs, as well as Piraeus, will be excluded from the 500,000 euro limit, while the northern and southern suburbs will be included instead Attica. For the other regions, the limit of 250,000 euros will remain.

At the same time, with the new regime it is possible to allow the securing of a license in expensive areas and through the purchase of up to two apartments (e.g. worth 250,000 euros each), as long as they are located on the same property.

As the deputy minister noted, the goal is to highlight other areas of the country, where investment funds can be directed, in addition to those that have so far garnered the most interest.

Regarding the implementation time of the regulation, a range of time will be given until the beginning of 2023 for the signing of pre-contracts for the purchase of real estate, based on the current regime.
