“It’s an honour for Greece to be the partner country of the Matka Nordic Travel Fair in January 2021, so we will be able to kick off a new year of tourism with a bang. Finland and the other Nordic countries are important for Greek tourism, and we want to give more and more visitors an opportunity to get to know our destinations. Greece is a popular destination especially with Finns, and we are really grateful for this. Safety, authenticity, and the strong identity of our destinations are some of the key motives for millions of tourists to visit Greece in 2021 too”, says Dimitris Fragakis, Secretary General of the Greek National Tourism Organisation.

At the Matka Nordic Travel Fair, Greece will provide a comprehensive overview of local attractions. The event will present the rich history of the country, including ancient sites, monasteries, and traditional Greek villages. The country’s diverse nature will also be highlighted with its magnificent nature destinations and activities, without forgetting Greek cuisine. In addition to the various destinations and activities, fair visitors will get to know how they can visit Greece as responsibly as possible, so that the local natural environments and communities can sustain the number of tourists.

A favourite with Finns from year to year
According to a study by the Association of Finnish Travel Agents, AFTA, Greece was the most popular holiday trip destination in 2019. For many years, Greece has been one of the most popular destinations for Finns.

“We are delighted that Greece will be the partner country of the Matka Nordic Travel Fair next January. Especially in these challenging times, our partnership with Greece boosts confidence in people’s continued eagerness to travel even after the current international crisis. Greece is a familiar travel destination to many Finns, and when travel is allowed again, I believe many of us will head to Greece to enjoy its offerings”, says the sales group manager at the Matka Nordic Travel Fair, Anna Suominen.
