Greek Tourism Confederation president Andreas Andreadis confident about 2015 arrivals

Although Greece experienced a slight drop in pre-bookings by the end of December 2014 – thanks, in part, to reported ‘Grexit’ fears, states Andreadis – the dip was outweighed by positive news of increased flight capacity planned for 2015 to most Greek destinations.

Ahead of the Greek parliamentary elections on January 25, Greek Tourism Confederation and Marketing Greece President Andreas Andreadis has expressed confidence that the country’s tourism arrivals will remain strong in 2015, regardless of the outcome.

“It is clear that much of the international media coverage of the Greek elections has created an air of uncertainty in the minds of public opinion regarding Greece. Therefore, it is important to note that, despite these obstacles, the outlook for Greek tourism in 2015 remains positive,” he says.

Although Greece experienced a slight drop in pre-bookings by the end of December 2014 – thanks, in part, to reported ‘Grexit’ fears, states Andreadis – the dip was outweighed by positive news of increased flight capacity planned for 2015 to most Greek destinations.

In 2014, Greece welcomed a record 21.5 million visitors, up 20 per cent over 2013, plus 2.5 million cruise ship arrivals. “We envisage, therefore, that the country will once again comfortably be among the leading 15 tourism destinations of the world, as measured by the UN’s World Tourism Organisation, a position it occupied for the first time in its history last year,” Andreadis remarks.

“With the increase in quality of our products and services, plus competitive prices, further improved by the recent devaluation of the euro and falling oil prices, we are confident we will be in a position to reach – or even surpass – our targets in 2015.”
