Hankook Tire survey reveals 'There's No Place Like Home' for the 4th of July

Latest Hankook Gauge Index highlights Americans' summer road trip and Fourth of July plans.

WAYNE, N.J. – The sunroofs are open and the tops are down as summer has officially begun. But despite the warmer weather and moderate gas prices, Hankook Tire‘s latest Quarterly Gauge Index found that most drivers plan to stay close to home this Independence Day weekend. The Gauge found that seventy-percent (70%) of drivers will not take a road trip this Fourth of July. In fact, drivers are reluctant to stray far at all as eighty-percent (80%) of Americans plan to travel 20 miles or less for their Fourth of July festivities.

All Americans have their own traditions for celebrating the Fourth of July, but when asked how they will spend this holiday, the most popular festivities are a good old fashioned BBQ at fifty-four percent (54%), and watching fireworks at fifty-three percent (53%).

While the majority of Americans plan to stay close to home this holiday weekend, summer is still an ideal travel time. When Hankook asked Americans if they will take a road trip at some point this summer, sixty-three percent (63%) of drivers responded that they will hit the open roads. For those summer road-trippers, sixty-two percent (62%) said they plan on traveling for 400 miles or more.

“Our quarterly Hankook Gauge Index provides compelling data and valuable insight into American’s driving behavior,” said Henry Kopacz, Public Relations and Social Media Manager, Hankook Tire America Corp. “The results from our latest survey shine a light on how Americans are approaching summer on and off the road. Summer travel continues to be popular, but there’s no place like home when it comes to the Fourth of July.”

The Hankook Tire Gauge Index is a quarterly survey of Americans that uncovers their attitudes and opinions about all things related to driving. The summer installment of the survey, conducted June 13th – 15th, 2015, polled 1,031 randomly selected Americans on spring driving and what is on their minds as the season approaches.
