Daily flights to Tokyo's Narita International Airport to begin July 22, 2016.
HONOLULU – Hawaiian Airlines announced plans to begin daily nonstop service between Narita International Airport (NRT) and Honolulu International Airport (HNL) starting July 22, 2016. Hawaiian’s new Narita route will complement its existing daily service to Tokyo Haneda Airport (HND), providing two daily flight options to travelers in the Greater Tokyo region.
“We’ve had the pleasure of carrying more than 800,000 visitors between Haneda and Honolulu since the launch of our daily A330 service more than five years ago,” said Mark Dunkerley, Hawaiian’s president and chief executive officer. “With average load factors routinely exceeding 90 percent, it is clear Japanese travelers have chosen Hawaiian as their carrier of choice when visiting our beautiful islands. We are excited to offer even more options for service between Honolulu and the Greater Tokyo region with the launch of a second daily flight from Narita that will offer the authentic Hawaiian hospitality and service that our guests have come to expect of us.”
Starting July 22, 2016, Hawaiian’s Flight HA 821 will depart Honolulu daily at 3:30 p.m., cross the international dateline, and arrive at Narita International Airport at 7 p.m. the following day. Beginning July 23, the return Flight HA 822 will depart from Narita at 9 p.m., cross the international dateline, and arrive at Honolulu International Airport at 9:55 a.m. the same day.
“Japan is Hawai’i’s largest international market with arrivals from the market making up 18 percent of total arrivals to the state in 2014,” said George D. Szigeti, president and CEO of the Hawai’i Tourism Authority. “Hawaiian Airlines’ daily flight from Narita to Honolulu is projected to contribute an annual $130 million in visitor spending and $14.7 million in state tax revenue. With the recent announcement that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security is looking to expand pre-clearance operations at Narita, this flight will provide additional service from one of our core markets.”
Guests on Hawaiian’s Honolulu-Narita flights will enjoy comfortable legroom aboard the wide-body, twin-aisle Airbus A330-200 aircraft, which seats 294 passengers and features 18 seats in Business Class, 40 seats in Extra Comfort and 236 seats in Economy Class.
Enhancing the enjoyment of the travel experience will be Hawaiian’s signature Mea Ho’okipa (translation: I am host) inflight service philosophy, long celebrated for its perpetuation of the authentic culture, people and Aloha Spirit of the islands.
With high-resolution LCD touch-screen monitors in each seatback, the A330’s state-of-the-art entertainment system lets customers choose from a wide-range of movies, TV programs, music, and video games, while also offering a USB port for personal media players.
Amenities for guests traveling between Hawai’i and Japan also include an expanded selection of entertainment, including Hawaiian music starring award-winning performers, classic artists and emerging new talent as well as original Japanese-language programming showcasing the best of Hawai’i on Hawai’i Local News.
On inbound flights from Japan, travelers in all cabins are treated to the best of modern Hawai’i cuisine before even reaching the Island shores with regional and global fusion dishes provided by renowned local Chef Lee Anne Wong, owner of island favorite Koko Head Cafe. When booking flights, families with children ages 12 and under can also pre-order keiki (kids) meals, which include a Hawaiian-print drawstring snack bag.
Narita will be the airline’s 11th international destination and its fourth destination in Japan. Hawaiian launched service from Honolulu to Haneda in November 2010, Osaka in July 2011 and Sapporo in October 2012.
