Headout launches Global Travel Reopening Dashboard to boost post-COVID travel

The travel industry has been decimated by the impact of the coronavirus outbreak. However, the world is re-opening again and access to credible and accurate information will be critical in aiding travel recovery.

NEW YORK, NY – Headout, the leading online brand for curated local experiences, has launched the Global Travel Reopening Dashboard. The dashboard helps potential travelers get live updates on the opening status for the top 800 landmarks around the world along with a comprehensive record of the safety measures in place at each one of the venues. It also includes an interactive map of 100 countries with corresponding travel regulations, quarantine rules, and case trends to help readers review and decide their next travel destination.

The travel industry has been decimated by the impact of the coronavirus outbreak. However, the world is re-opening again and access to credible and accurate information will be critical in aiding travel recovery. Headout is working with hundreds of partners and venues on-ground to aggregate, verify, and normalize data on a real-time basis. With the help of this dataset, travelers can now get an unparalleled view of reopening trends around the world and plan their next vacation accordingly.

"Today, there is no single place on the internet to find reopening and safety information for tourist hotspots across the world. We are making the Global Travel Reopening Dashboard accessible to the public to change this", says Varun Khona, CEO of Headout.

Headout’s reopening data reveals:

  • Europe leading the road to recovery – Tourism is back on its feet sooner than expected with 10 countries having reopened all landmarks. Europe, Oceania & Africa are leading the way with respect to easing lockdown while North and South America are lagging behind.
  • Online tickets are the (only) way forward – More than 45% of tourist attractions around the world have mandated the purchase of online tickets to avoid queues. 1 in 4 landmarks have stopped accepting cash for a contactless experience. 46% of venues have also moved from flexible to timed entry.
  • Masks and reduced capacity are more popular measures than temperature checks – Mandatory masks and reduced capacity are more popular safety protocols than temperature checks. 48% of tourist attractions have made it mandatory for visitors to wear a mask.
  • Outdoors before indoors – 70% of nature camps, hiking trails, adventure sports, national parks, and beaches have reopened around the world. While only 30% of nature parks & wildlife reserves have reduced visitor capacity, 70% of museums & aquariums have limited the number of visitors per hour.
