HomeToGo releases 2022 ski season report highlighting top destinations under $200

World’s largest vacation rental marketplace shows a 134% yearly increase in filtered-searches for accommodations near ski slopes and a high demand for affordable winter escapes.

FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. – HomeToGo, the world’s largest vacation rental marketplace, revealed the results of its annual Ski Season Report for 2022, ranking the top 50 ski destinations in the U.S. based on traveler interest and affordability. The study shows the changing demands for ski enthusiasts this year and the expected spend in regards to lift tickets and nightly accommodation prices throughout the U.S.’s most popular ski destinations. This year’s top destinations range from the ultra-luxurious to the budget friendly, highlighting the top affordable destinations based on a less than $200 per day budget.

“With heavy snowfall across the country and many travelers looking to stay domestic, the 2022 ski season is shaping up to be extremely lively this year. U.S. ski weekends have proven to be the ultimate outdoor winter adventure for eager travelers, with skiers booking with ease of access and affordability in mind,” said Caroline Burns, Head of PR and Travel Expert, HomeToGo. “Cabins closer to the slopes with convenient access to lifts and amenities reign as the accommodation of choice for ski enthusiasts.”

Based on lift ticket prices sourced directly from the listed ski resorts and HomeToGo accommodation pricing data for the 2022 ski season, here’s a snapshot of the top-ranking ski areas from this year’s report:

Based on U.S. traveler search and booking behavior using HomeToGo

  • S​ki-in ski-out accommodations are in high demand. Usage of HomeToGo’s ‘near ski’ search filter increased by 134% this year, as more travelers look to avoid busy shuttle buses and stay closer to the slopes.
  • Skiers are heading to the Rockies. Summit County, Colorado is the most searched ski area on HomeToGo this season, taking the top spot from Lake Tahoe California. Summit County is home to some of the top ski resorts in the country, including Breckenridge, Vail, Arapahoe Basin, Copper Mountain, and many others.
  • Planning ski trips farther in advance. The average skier began looking for accommodations 88 days (~12.5 weeks) before traveling – almost a full month longer compared to the  2021 ski season (60 days).
  • Staying flexible and stretching their vacation plans. This season, more skiers are looking to travel flexibly; use of HomeToGo’s Flexible Search feature is up by 5% compared to last season. The average number of days being searched is also up +16% with the average skier looking to spend 15 days or more on the mountain.
