Hostelworld.com nominated for a prestigious Webby Award

Hostelworld.com announced that their city guide videos have been nominated in the ‘Best Travel Video’ category at this year’s prestigious Webby Awards. Hailed as the ‘Internet’s highest honour’ by the New York Times, the Webby Awards are the leading international award awards honouring excellence on the internet. Presented by Hostelworld.com’s Editor Colm Hanratty, the videos are the only Irish nominee in the category.

 As part of Hostelworld.com’s continued effort to provide their savvy customer base with the freshest type of content, Hostelworld.com now has 4 city guide videos live, for Dublin, New York, London and Prague. A further six for cities such as Rome and Paris are to be added over the coming months. Hostelworld.com also has over 200 hostel walk through videos of the site’s top properties worldwide, with hostels themselves also given the opportunity to upload their own hostel video’s giving customers a unique offering in the budget travel sector. In addition to their videos, the site now boasts extensive user-generated content with over two million reviews from travellers across the globe, ensuring Hostelworld.com continues to be the market leader of online reservations to the budget, independent and youth travel market.

“When we found out about the nomination we were over the moon as the videos were only launched last August”, Hostelworld.com Editor and presenter of the videos Colm Hanratty said. “Being nominated for this award is a testament to the efforts of all at Hostelworld.com to ensure that we are the number one resource for backpackers and independent travellers around the world”, he added. “Our customers are often ahead of the trends so it is essential that we continuously provide them with up-to-date content, giving them an opportunity to see and explore the world through our video content, as well as through our user-generated content”.

As a nominee, Hostelworld.com is also eligible to win a Webby People’s Voice Award, which is voted online by the global Web community. From now until April 30th, Hostelworld.com fans can cast their votes in The Webby People’s Voice Awards at http://pv.webbyawards.com .

Winners will be announced on May 5th, 2009 and honored at a star-studded ceremony in New York City on June 8th hosted by Seth Meyers. Winners will be able to share one of the Webby’s famous five-word speeches with the world. Past Webby Award winners – and their speeches – include Al Gore ("Please don’t recount this vote."), Beastie Boys ("Can anyone fix my computer?"), and Stephen Colbert ("Me. Me. Me. Me. Me.").

The Webby Awards are presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, a 650-person judging academy whose members include Internet co-inventor Vinton Cerf, R/GA’s Chief Bob Greenberg, "Simpson’s" creator Matt Groening, Arianna Huffington, and Harvey Weinstein.
