How design is influencing cruise passenger experience

Marine Interiors Cruise & Ferry Global Expo, powered by SMM, is co-located with Seatrade Europe, which is celebrating its 10th year this year, in Hamburg Germany, 11th-13th September 2019.

Design has always been a fundamental consideration when designing luxury rooms for hotels – now the same standard of luxury and style is becoming a focus for cruise lines and interior designers.

Much of the luxury cruise industry is taking aesthetic inspiration from iconic hotels from around the globe, taking design cues from some of the finest designers and manufacturers to develop unique collaborations that can help evolve and revolutionise the ocean and river cruising offering.

With world renowned hotel chains venturing into the luxury cruise market, they face the challenge of maintaining and replicating their high standards for style, sophistication and comfort on a cruise liner instead of a land-based hotel. Ritz-Carlton are one of the most luxurious hotel brands in the world and in February 2020 the brand is launching its very own luxury superyacht. Taking their unique style and service onto the sea, the brand has worked closely with leading design firm Tillberg Design of Sweden, to develop a bespoke and exclusive experience for passengers.

Fredrik Johansson of Tillberg Design will be on the panel of speakers for the ‘How to design to comply’ conference session; offering insight from his 25 years within the company into how he has managed some of the world’s most creative and prestigious marine projects, including his experience within Private Yachts, Explorer ships and Ocean Liners.

Marine Interiors Cruise & Ferry Global Expo, powered by SMM, is co-located with Seatrade Europe, which is celebrating its 10th year this year, in Hamburg Germany, 11th-13th September 2019. It is here that visitors have the chance to gain a greater insight into how these design challenges are being met.

At this year’s event, there are two free-to-attend conference sessions which will welcome experts in the industry. Both conference sessions focus on a key theme; ‘How design helps to convey, define or create brand identity’, and ‘How to design to comply’. It is in these free-to-attend conference sessions that visitors can hear stories and industry insights from this growing market and to visualise how design is taking an increasingly important role in marine design.
