Import Promotion Desk presents sustainable travel offers from Ecuador, Nepal and Tunisia at virtual ITB Berlin NOW

Free services: IPD brings European tour operators together with reliable partners from developing and emerging countries.

BONN / BERLIN – At this year’s ITB, the Import Promotion Desk (IPD) will present its entire tourism offer with 25 travel providers from Ecuador, Nepal and Tunisia for the first time. The travel offers are individual, distinct from mass tourism and particularly consider sustainability criteria. The import promotion initiative, a project of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), has carefully selected the tourism companies and is now supporting them on their way to the European market. This year, the IPD’s tourism offer is set to grow further, with the inclusion of Uzbekistan as a new partner country.

Free support in the search for new partners
At ITB Berlin NOW, which will take place virtually from March 9 to 12, IPD will put European tour operators in touch with 25 tour operators from Ecuador, Nepal and Tunisia. IPD will only introduce tour operators to suppliers who have previously been screened and evaluated on the basis of predefined criteria. This qualitative pre-selection saves the tour operators time and money, and they can reduce the risks involved in finding new business partners. IPD’s services are free of charge. “As a partner of the European tourism industry, we provide support in the time-consuming search for new partners, sustainable products and unusual destinations,” says Nora Eichkorn, IPD Expert Sustainable Tourism. “At the same time, by promoting sustainable tourism, we support economic, social and environmental development in our partner countries.”

Even during the Covid19 pandemic, IPD experts maintain close contact with partner companies and continue the screening process. This allows IPD to ensure the quality of the offer while supporting the companies with background information, trainings and matchmaking events.

ITB Berlin NOW: IPD presents unusual destinations
At this year’s ITB, among others, the tour operator “Campus Adventures” from Ecuador will present its offer for sustainable tourism: The IPD partner company invites its guests to experience the highlands, the Amazon rainforest and the Pacific coast entirely “on foot”. “Campus Adventures” specializes in individual and customized trekking tours and is certified by TourCert and Travelife. In Nepal, IPD supports the company “Sasane Sisterhood Trekking”, which trains women who are survivors of human trafficking to become tour guides and strengthens their independence. The tours lead through Kathmandu, into the surrounding countryside with views of the Himalayas and into the Annapurna Mountains. Bird watching tours, horse safaris, hiking and trekking tours are offered by “Tunisia Ecotourism”. It is based in the green north of Tunisia not far from the foothills of the Atlas Mountains and near the Ichkeul National Park and UNESCO World Heritage Site.
