Island Air selects Amadeus’ next generation technology to power its flying future

Leading Hawaii-based regional airline will benefit from the same robust IT capabilities supporting some of the world’s largest carriers.

MIAMI – Leading airlines turn to sophisticated technology to help them become more agile, competitive and customer-focused, but these next generation passenger services systems are no longer only the domain of the world's biggest network carriers.  Hawai'i's leading regional carrier, Island Air, is the latest future-focused airline in North America to select Amadeus' industry leading Altea portfolio of IT solutions to power its continued flight into the future.

Offering more than 280 flights each week between the islands of O'ahu, Maui, Kaua'i and Hawai'i Island with more to be added, the implementation of Amadeus' Altea technology will further the carrier's efforts to become a competitive regional carrier in Hawai'i, providing exceptional customer service, excellent safety standards, and expanded service to the main Hawaiian Islands, according to David Uchiyama, President and Chief Executive Officer of Island Air.

"As we transition our fleet to larger Q400 aircraft, we are excited to nearly double the number of flights between O'ahu, Maui, Kaua'i and Hawai'i Island by May 2017," said Uchiyama. "To help facilitate the expansion in our flight schedules, increase our agility to accommodate flights during peak seasons and, most importantly, offer a great seamless experience to our customers, we are confident Amadeus is the best technology partner and provider."

Island Air will implement the full portfolio of Altea IT solutions, including e-commerce, reservations, inventory, and departure control systems, as well as revenue integrity, loyalty and travel intelligence functionality. Amadeus' turnkey solutions for regional and mid-size airlines allow for quick and seamless implementation in a scalable, cost-effective way. Island Air, which currently uses a fleet of 64-seat ATR-72 turboprop aircraft and Q400 78-seat aircraft, will begin a phased migration to the new Amadeus systems this month.

"Island Air and Amadeus have a partnership dating back more than 12 years. Amadeus, through our people and innovative technology, is committed to enabling Island Air's vision of delivering an extraordinary flying experience while supporting their business objectives," said Ilia Kostov, Chief Commercial Officer, Airline IT, Amadeus North America. "Every airline today, regardless of size or business model, can reap significant benefits from modernizing their IT systems. Flexible, open and nimble technology is now required for airlines to advance the passenger experience and stay competitive."

Island Air is among a growing number of airlines in North America – from small carriers to large network players such as Southwest Airlines, Air Transat, and Cape Air – which have implemented one or more components of Amadeus' Altea portfolio.
