Italy on top of the world at The Conde' Nast Traveller Readers' Awards 2012

Italy was voted "Favourite Country" at this year's Conde' Nast Traveller Readers' Awards, in front of runner-up France (2), United States (3) and Spain (4) and many other European and worldwide destinations.

It was a real triumph for Italy at this year’s Conde’ Nast Traveller Readers’ Awards, now in its 15th edition. The Awards ceremony was held at the British Museum on 6 September 2012.

Italy was voted “Favourite Country”, in front of runner-up France (2), United States (3) and Spain (4) and many other European and worldwide destinations.

Sicily was voted “Favourite Island”, beating exotic destinations such as Bali (2), the Maldives (3), the Greek and Spanish Islands. Rome and Florence took respectively 5th and 6th place in the category “Favourite Overseas Cities”.

The Italian hospitality industry also took first prize with the Hotel Splendido in Portofino, in the category “Favourite Leisure Hotel” in Europe, Asia Minor and Russia. Citalia was placed in 3rd position for “Favourite Specialist Tour Operators” and Think Sicily came 2nd in the category “Favourite Villa Rental Companies”.

Italy was also awarded the first prize in the “Top 100 Best of the Best” category as best overall holiday experience. An incredible achievement.

The Awards, among the most important in the travel press, are voted by the readers of Conde’ Nast Traveller (83.000 circulation) who fill in a questionnaire on their holiday preferences and experiences. The data is then collated and analyzed by an independent company and winning lists are then compiled.
