Latin American luxury travellers search for ‘purpose’ in their trips

In its 10th edition, ILTM Latin America welcomes the age of the conscious traveller.

Since 2011, ILTM Latin America has been sanctioning the value of outbound luxury travel business from the continent and now confirms its pivotal role in delivering high net worth Latin American travellers to the world with this year’s event in Sao Paulo, 5-8 May 2020.

Launched as the niche Travelweek Sao Paulo and welcoming mainly Brazilian buyers, ILTM Latin America 2020 will see over 450 of the world’s most sought after collection of elite properties, far-flung destinations and unique experiences from across the world joining to meet 450 buyers – 25% of whom will be new – from Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Chile, Peru and beyond. They gather to herald the age of the Conscious Traveller, highlighting trends and facilitating ideas as well as to build business and business opportunities.

Martin Frankenburg of the Brazilian Luxury Travel Association comments: “Our travellers do not simply visit a destination, take pictures and go home. They’re looking for ‘transformation journeys’ to give something back, feel responsible of the longevity of the destinations – care for its biodiversity, nature, community. In other words, the experience they are seeking purpose in their trips.”

With Brazil’s expanding middle class, a steadily growing economy plus an additional six days holiday in 2020 (falling not just on Mondays and Fridays but other ‘bridge’ days too), there is an expectation that many more Brazilians will travel this year. The ILTM team will also be travelling to visit Bogota, Buenos Aires and Lima to meet with additional curators of luxury travel looking to attend ILTM Latin America 2020 to identify new experiences and destinations for their high-net worth clients in Argentina, Colombia and Peru.

In the year of the Tokyo Olympics, regional buyers accredited to attend ILTM Latin America 2020 will meet with representatives from Japan for the first time, bringing the land of the rising sun to the increasingly accessible region. Other destinations profiled at the event include the Bahamas, France, Italy, Mexico, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, the US and closer to home, Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Peru.

New properties from all four corners of the globe at the 10th anniversary event include Amerikalinjen in Norway; Hangaroa in Chile; Lotte Hotel St. Petersburg in Russia; Grand Park Hotel Rovinj in Croatia; Caresse, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa in Bodrum, Turkey; the new Villa Copenhagen in Denmark; JOALI in the Maldives and The Londoner, soon to open in the centre of the UK capital. They join established global brands such as AccorLuxury Hotels, Aman, Belmond, British Airways, Crystal Cruises, Jumeirah Hotels and Resorts, Minor Hotels, Seabourn Cruise Line and TAJ Hotels.

ILTM Latin America Event Director Simon Mayle concludes: “As in fashion, the response from the luxury market is leading the way in understanding and meeting new consumer demands such as where we are now with conscious travel i.e. balancing personal fulfilment with human rights, sustainable communities and the environment. At ILTM Latin America this year, we are using our influence to help shape industry thinking and explore possibilities with so many like-minded travel brands and pan-continental influential buyers here at our 10th anniversary edition in May.”
