Lore Group names Dieter Schmitz Area General Manager of DC and forthcoming Riggs Hotel

Hospitality veteran to manage the international hospitality group’s first US project

NEW YORK, NY – International hospitality company Lore Group is pleased to announce the appointment of Dieter Schmitz as Area General Manager for the Riggs Washington DC hotel, a new property opening in early 2020 in DC’s Penn Quarter in addition to his oversight of the company’s DC hotel assets.

As Area General Manager, Schmitz will be responsible for overseeing and executing all aspects of operations for the launch of Lore Group’s first hotel project in the U.S. Housed in the former historic Riggs National Bank, the forthcoming property will feature 181 guest rooms and suites, an expansive restaurant and lounge, rooftop event space, and subterranean bar.

Schmitz joins Lore Group with 15+ years of hospitality experience across the United States. He has directly led six successful opening teams, including three new build flagship hotels in Manhattan where he served as Area General Manager for IHG. Schmitz led two openings in Southern California and Manhattan to be named onto the prestigious Top 25 Hotels in the United States via the prestigious Travelers’ Choice Awards and all six openings held the #1 spot in their markets on Trip Advisor under his leadership. He brings a passion for creating differentiating guest experiences, and in creating and maintaining a flourishing work culture for his valued team members. “The opportunity to be part of the Riggs Washington DC opening team is a hotelier’s dream role. The property will provide an energizing guest experience brought to life by some incredibly talented hoteliers and passionate personalities. This paired with an unbeatable location and stunning design that pays homage to the history of our beautiful building will combine for an incomparable guest experience in the city. We are joining an amazing portfolio in Lore Group as the first property in the United States and I greatly look forward to introducing our great city, country and world to our beautiful hotel,” said Schmitz.

Schmitz will move to DC with his wife Isabell, their 10-month-old son Nico, and their French bulldog Wellington. He is an avid Los Angeles Kings fan, loves tennis, and enjoys traveling to Austria to visit Isabell’s family.
