Low-cost airline VivaColombia launches forst U.S. flights with service from Miami

Medellin service began December 2; Bogota service starts on December 16.

MIAMI – International low-cost carrier VivaColombia launched its first service in the United States when it began flights between Miami International Airport and Medellin, Colombia. The budget carrier, which already serves 11 cities in Colombia and three other destinations in Latin America, will also begin Miami-Bogota service on December 16. The new flights will utilize 180-seat Airbus A320 aircraft.

“We are proud to welcome VivaColombia to our growing roster of airlines, and to provide our travelers with another travel option to Medellin and Bogota,” said Miami-Dade Aviation Director Emilio T. Gonzalez. “With nearly 1.3 million passengers annually, Colombia is our second-busiest international market, and we look forward to serving more travelers on these popular routes with VivaColombia.”

VivaColombia’s Miami-Medellin flights, which operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, arrive in Miami at 10:10 a.m. and depart to Medellin at 11:50 a.m. The Miami-Bogota schedule, which will also operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, will arrive in Miami at 7:05 p.m. and depart to Bogota at 8:35 p.m.

VivaColombia is Colombia’s second-largest airline, the nation’s leading budget carrier, and MIA’s sixth international low-cost carrier.
