MIA hub carrier American Airlines launches Miami – Frankfurt service

New air service option connects Miami to the financial capital of continental Europe.

MIAMI – Miami International Airport hub carrier American Airlines added its newest international destination this week with the launch of daily service from Miami to Frankfurt, Germany. American Airlines’ new direct flights to continental Europe’s financial capital will be operated using Boeing 767-300 aircraft and provide passengers with an additional Miami-Frankfurt travel option, along with Lufthansa’s daily flights on the same route.

“American Airlines continues to be a tremendous partner for MIA and our community, and I congratulate them on their new Miami-Frankfurt service,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez.

Frankfurt anchors Germany’s second-largest metro area and is home to many of the country’s leading private banks, a major stock exchange, the European Central Bank and the Federal Republic of Germany’s central bank. Aside from being a major financial center, the city’s location at the geographic heart of the European Union also makes it a natural transportation hub. Frankfurt Airport offers extensive continental and international connections, while the city’s rail station provides links throughout Germany and Europe.

“Miami International Airport is our community’s top economic engine, and American Airlines’ daily flights to Frankfurt will help to further propel our local economy forward,” said Miami-Dade County Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz, Chairman of the County’s Trade and Tourism Committee.

“Along with supporting tourism, American’s new Miami-Frankfurt service will strengthen business ties between Europe’s financial heart and Miami’s international banking and finance sector,” added Miami-Dade Aviation Director Emilio T. Gonzalez. “We appreciate American Airlines’ continued commitment to the growing Miami market.”

Next month, American Airlines will launch service from Miami to Monterrey, Mexico and Barranquilla, Colombia. In July, Aruba Airlines begins service from Miami to Aruba, while Aerolineas Argentinas begins Miami-Cordoba service. This fall, Four-Star carriers Austrian Airlines and Turkish Airlines will begin scheduled service from Miami to Vienna and Istanbul, respectively.
