The Seventh Arabian Travel Market Conference, which was scheduled take place at the Gulf International Hotel and Conference Centre in Bahrain on 4th and 5th May 2002, has been postponed until 2003.

The decision to postpone the conference has been taken jointly by the Ministry of Cabinet Affairs and Information, Tourism Affairs, of the Government of the Kingdom of Bahrain, Reed Travel Exhibitions and the conference organisers, following the announcement of the League of Arab States to convene a conference of its members` Tourism Ministers on the exact same dates, in the United Arab Emirates.

The Arabian Travel Market Conference is a major opportunity in the tourism calendar, each year, for tourism representatives of both the government and the private sectors to come together to discuss topics of mutual interest. It is felt that the absence of major government representation, particularly from the countries of the G.C.C. would have a negative impact on the conference, its aims and its objectives.

Speaking for Reed<.> Travel Exhibitions, Matt Thompson said that the decision to postpone the event has been taken jointly with the host government Bahrain, the conference organisers and Reed, having considered a number of options, including the alteration of the dates to after the Arabian Travel Market, ATM<.>, itself. This was felt to be unacceptable for a number of reasons, not least of which would be the difficulties of delegates in rescheduling their arrangements at this late stage.

Matt Thompson continued, We are obviously sad that the conference will not take place in 2002, since it forms part of the broader Arabian Travel Market experience, however, we are delighted that the Government of the Kingdom of Bahrain have already stated their commitment to host the event in 2003.

The Seventh Arabian Travel Market Conference will now take place of 3rd and 4th May 2003 with details of the event being launched at the World Travel Market in London, in November.
