MustSee Art and Travel Guide App Maker builds culture vulture sharing community

Meetings will start in New York City and Philadelphia and expand to other major cities in the coming months.

NEW YORK – The New York City tech startup, Arete Media, is expanding. The MustSee guides mobile app creators are hosting regularly scheduled creator community meetings for sharing insight into building mobile digital guides. MustSee guides provide a platform for people to self-publish their own multimedia mobile guides to share or sell at no cost to the creator.

While many tech startups like Uber and Airbnb focus on disrupting traditional marketplaces, the makers of the MustSee mobile guide application see an opportunity to be part of the sharing economy – to add to it rather than cannibalize it.

That is why MustSee is starting meet up Creator Community meetings to introduce people to each other and to help them make great travel and art digital guides about places all over the world. The community forums will showcase guest speakers, roundtables and demos. Art, science and historical enthusiasts, tour guides, museum and travel professionals will be a vital part of the community.

The founder and CEO, John Soppe, sees the local Creator Community as a natural extension of the current service’s use by museums like the South Street Seaport Museum, the Bellarmine Museum at Fairfield University, and the Edgar Allan Poe Museum. “MustSee was designed for passionate people to create guides about what moves them. There is a wealth of creative capital that is ready to be unlocked with a community of culture vulture guide builders,” said Soppe.

The MustSee service pays licensing fees to creators when their guides are sold. “We see that the majority of people will want to share their travel tours. But there is also a big demand by people wanting to understand the context of places and objects they’re visiting. The platform lets people find great stuff, and understand it,” explained Mr. Soppe. “We are one of the very few companies that can offer a mobile application service to individuals and organizations to generate revenue for themselves if they decide to charge for their content.”

Meetings will start in New York City and Philadelphia and expand to other major cities in the coming months. The schedule of upcoming events is on the NYC Culture Vulture Guides and the Philadelphia Culture Vulture Guides Meetup Group pages.
