New Canadian signature experiences offer remarkable adventures for travellers

Guided adventures with SkiBig3 – Alberta (CNW Group/Destination Canada).

Tourism is Canada’s number one service export, with international revenues reaching $21.3 billion in 2017. Over 736,000 jobs in communities from coast to coast to coast were directly supported by tourism in 2017, up 2% over 2016.

VANCOUVER – Destination Canada, Canada's national tourism marketing organization, welcomed two exciting new members to the Canadian Signature Experiences collection from across Canada.

The Canadian Signature Experiences is a curated collection of over 200 extraordinary and authentically Canadian travel experiences. As diverse as the country itself, these unique experiences are offered from coast to coast to coast and provide an introduction to the best Canada – and Canadians – has to offer.

"Tourism is an important economic driver and I'm am pleased to see the quality and the creativity of our Canadian tourism industry. Today, I am glad to introduce Guided Adventures by SkiBig3 and Baffin Island Jewel of the High Arctic by One Ocean Expeditions as the latest inclusions in the Canadian Signature Experiences collection," said  the Honourable Melanie Joly, Minister of Tourism, Official Languages and La Francophonie. "These diverse experiences show travellers from around the world new ways to explore Canada, whether from a ship in the High Arctic during summer, or on skis, traversing our iconic mountains in winter."

One Ocean Expeditions was also included in the Government of Canada's federal, provincial and territorial tourism trade mission to China in June 2018, which showcased Canada's diverse and unique tourism opportunities to Chinese travellers and to the Chinese tourism industry.

"The quality experiences and activities that form the Canadian Signature Experiences collection offer visitors to Canada an authentic insight into our diverse country," said David F. Goldstein, Destination Canada's President and CEO. "They are designed to inspire travellers to consider new, often surprising adventures and locations in Canada, and we believe our two new members will do just that."

The two new experiences are:

  • Guided adventures with SkiBig3 – Alberta

Travellers can now experience Alberta's three iconic ski resorts, Banff Sunshine, Mt Norquay and Lake Louise Ski Resort through the eyes of a local. Skiers and snowboarders will be immersed in the local ski culture with SkiBig3's Guided Adventures. With nearly 8,000 acres of skiable terrain to cover, skiers and snowboarders can find the best spots on the mountain, uncover secret stashes and hidden powder gems and enjoy an insider's tour led by a CSIA-certified instructor. The three-day program includes one day at each resort and is tailored to the guest's style and preference in terrain. The experience also includes lift-line priority, a maple taffy closing celebration, surprise gift, and a pass to the Whyte Museum in Banff.

  • Baffin Island Jewel of the High Arctic with One Ocean Expeditions – Nunavut

Travellers board the 96-passenger One Ocean Navigator / Akademik Ioffe at Iqaluit in Nunavut to cross the Arctic Circle and explore the wild east coast of Baffin Island. Meet traditional Inuit communities, watch for polar bears, seals and narwhals, and stop at the Ninginganiq National Wildlife Area, a bowhead whale sanctuary. Feel the desolate remoteness of Beechey Island, the final resting place of the doomed 1856 Franklin Expedition. Polar experts, marine biologists, historians, Inuit guides and a resident photographer are on board this 12-day luxury cruise that takes place from late July to early August.

Since the Canadian Signature Experiences program's inception, the collection has grown to over 200 members and Destination Canada works in partnership with all 13 Canadian provincial and territorial marketing organizations to build and maintain the collection.
