Not-so-young cash strapped kids gatecrash mum and dad's summer holiday

kalkanmagic.com reports that twice as many guests for 2013 than in 2011 and 2012 are travelling as an extended family so that sons and daughters can enjoy an all expenses paid luxury holiday courtesy of their parents.

At one time, teens, twentysomethings and definitely thirtysomethings, were keen to branch out on their own and join their friends or partners for a family free holiday. Now, according to Kalkan Magic, a leading provider of holiday accommodation in Turkey, the opposite is true, with mum and dad increasingly taking their twenty and even thirty something children and even their partners on a free holiday to help them save their hard earned cash.

kalkanmagic.com reports that twice as many guests for 2013 than in 2011 and 2012 are travelling as an extended family so that sons and daughters can enjoy an all expenses paid luxury holiday courtesy of their parents.

Sue Flynn, owner of Kalkan Magic, which specialises in holiday homes in Kalkan on the Turkey’s Turquoise coast, said: “We have always been used to couples with young children take grandparents along so they can spend time with the grandchildren and provide a spot of babysitting but here, we are definitely seeing a shift of a different kind, with a clear move towards extended families holidaying together in the same property with their older children with them occupying rooms that mum and dad may otherwise leave spare. Often when we speak to our guests booking accommodation, they are keen to help their kids by paying for their summer holiday as otherwise they wouldn’t get away. I am not sure who pays for the cocktails when they get there though!”

Christine Brockhurst took her 26 year old son Tom and his girlfriend on holiday to Turkey last year and may do the same this year. She said: “It’s difficult these days for youngsters to pay for flights and accommodation themselves so if we book a 3 bedroomed property there is plenty of space for us all and they don’t pay anything. Because we book the flights so far in advance, we book theirs too and by the time you go, you have already paid so it doesn’t seem too bad. We will soon be booking for 2013 and I wouldn’t be surprised if they come along again!”
