Press trip invitation: Exclusive insight into Genoa's palaces during The 'Rolli Days' Weekend

There will also be plenty of opportunities to try typical Genoese food, explore the regenerated Porto Antico and Genoa’s Aquarium, which is the largest in Europe.

The Genoa Municipality is running a group press trip to experience one of the ‘Rolli Days’ weekends from 20-22 September. These weekends only take place a few times a year and are dedicated to Genoa’s palaces, with exclusive palace visits and guiding.

There are 42 palaces in Genoa’s historical centre, which are collectively known as the ‘Palazzi dei Rolli’. These were built by the wealthiest and most powerful aristocratic families of the Republic of Genoa in the 16th century. Due to their historical, economic and aesthetic significance the palaces now have UNESCO World Heritage status.

Guided tours will explain how the palaces came to be on the UNESCO World Heritage list.  Most excitingly the group will have exclusive visits to palaces that are now privately owned and rarely open to the public. There will also be a tour of the Museum of Strada Nuova which is within one of the palaces and houses sumptuous furniture, mirrors and portraits of the Genoese aristocracy. A walking tour of Genoa’s medieval old town, which is the largest in Europe, will take the group down the narrow lanes or ‘caruggi’ where they can explore the historical shops such as the food shop Sa’ Pesta and the confectionary shop Pasticceria Liquoreria Marescotti.

Flights, airport transfers, accommodation (tbc- in central Genoa), all guiding and all meals are included on the trip.
