Qatar Airways enters interline partnership with Vietjet

Doha-based carrier reinforces decade-long commitment to Vietnam with latest agreement to provide Vietnam-based passengers greater access to Doha and beyond. Award-winning airline recently added extra services to Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi.

DOHA, QATAR – Qatar Airways announced its interline partnership with Vietnam-based Vietjet Air, an agreement which will allow Qatar Airways passengers to travel to and from points in Vietnam not served directly by Qatar Airways using a single reservation across both airlines’ networks.

The new partnership will allow passengers travelling to and from eight new domestic points within Vietnam to connect via Qatar Airways’ existing gateways in Vietnam – Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) and Hanoi (HAN) – providing them with a more seamless travel experience. The agreement includes the popular coastal city Da Nang (DAD), as well as Ban Me Thuot (BMV), Dalat (DLI), Hai Phong (HPH), Nha Trang (CXR), Phu Quoc (PQC), Pleiku (PXU), Vinh City (VII) and one international point, Taipei (TPE).

Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker, said: “We are delighted to welcome Vietjet to our growing roster of interline partners as they allow us to provide a more seamless experience for our passengers. The new agreement with Vietjet will offer our passengers even more choice, providing them an easy connection in Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi before transferring to their Qatar Airways flights.

"Qatar Airways is delighted to celebrate ten years in Vietnam this year, and it is all thanks to the Vietnamese market’s support that we have been able to expand our footprint in this growing market.”

Qatar Airways first commenced operations to Ho Chi Minh City on 25 March 2007. The airline was also the first Gulf carrier to offer non-stop service to Vietnam’s largest city. In addition, Hanoi was added to the airline’s fast-growing global network in November 2010. Passengers will benefit from frequency increases to both cities starting from 1 January 2018, with Qatar Airways flying double-daily to Hanoi and providing 10 flights a week to Ho Chi Minh City.

In March 2016, Ho Chi Minh City also became Qatar Airways Cargo’s sixth freighter destination in Asia Pacific. These developments serve as a reflection of the airline’s growing presence and commitment to the Vietnamese market.

The award-winning airline recently added additional services to the Vietnamese cities of Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, as well as to the popular Thai holiday destination of Krabi.

Vietjet is the first airline in Vietnam to operate as a new-age airline with low-cost and diversified services to meet customers’ demands. It provides not only transport services but also uses the latest e-commerce technologies to offer various products and services for consumers. Vietjet is a member of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) with the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) certificate. The airline was also named as one of the Top 500 Brands in Asia 2016 by global marketing research company Nielsen and “Best Asian Low Cost Carrier” at the TTG Travel Awards 2015, which compiles votes from travelers, travel agencies and tour operators in throughout Asia. The airline was also rated as one of the top three fastest growing airline brands on Facebook in the world by Socialbakers.

Currently, Vietjet boasts a fleet of 45 aircraft, including A320s and A321s, and operates 350 flights each day. It has already opened 73 routes in Vietnam and across the region to international destinations such as Thailand, Singapore, South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, China, Malaysia, Myanmar and Cambodia. It has carried nearly 40 million passengers to date.

Looking ahead, the airline plans to expand its network across the Asia Pacific region. To prepare for this plan, Vietjet has signed agreements with the world’s leading aircraft manufacturers to purchase more brand-new and modern aircraft.

Qatar Airways to Commence Operations to Pulkovo Saint Petersburg Airport
Qatar Airways also announced the launch of a scheduled service from Doha to St. Petersburg. The flights are to start on 19 December 2017 and will be performed daily. The direct service between Hamad International Airport an Pulkovo International Airport will be operated on A320 aircraft, offering 12 flatbed seats in Business Class and 120 seats in Economy Class.

Doha is among the strategic routes in the New Destinations Support Program of St. Petersburg Airport. Before, there has been no direct scheduled air connection between the two cities.

Starting in the beginning of the winter holidays season, the new flights will be in demand with those traveling both directly to Qatar, with entry visas waived for Russian citizens, as well to transfer passengers continuing their journey from Doha further to Southeast Asia, Oceania and other parts of the world. Qatar Airways offers service to 150 destinations on the map from its home and hub Hamad International Airport.

Qatar Airways was launched by the state in 1997. In 2017, Qatar Airways has received a number of major accolades, including Airline of the Year by the prestigious 2017 Skytrax World Airline Awards, which was held at the Paris Air Show. This is the fourth time that Qatar Airways has been given this global recognition as the world’s best airline. As well as being voted Best Airline by travellers from around the world, Qatar’s national flag carrier also won a raft of other major awards at the ceremony, including Best Airline in the Middle East, World’s Best Business Class and World’s Best First Class Airline Lounge.
