Qatar Airways to serve Cyprus: New flights to larnaca from this spring

Larnaca will be the airline’s first route to Cyprus – a popular holiday destination.

DOHA, QATAR – Qatar Airways is continuing its steady expansion plan for the coming year with the announcement of flights to Larnaca International Airport in Cyprus commencing 29 April 2014.

The new route, which will fly four times a week to Larnaca, will be operated by an Airbus A320, configured in a two-class configuration with 12 seats in Business Class and 132 in Economy Class.

Known for its waterfronts, scenic vistas and stunning beaches, Larnaca is located on Cyprus’ southernmost coast and is the third largest city in the country. Larnaca International Airport, located on the edge of the city provides central access to all amenities.

Larnaca will be the airline’s first route to Cyprus – a popular holiday destination.

Attractions in Larnaca include the ancient city of Kition, Larnaca Fort, Hala Sultan Tekke (Grand Mosque), Church of Saint Lazarus, Europe Square and Larnaca Salt Lake.

In a statement from the airline it said: “Larnaca is a destination that Qatar Airways is pleased to be providing regular scheduled service to. We are continually striving to provide customers with more options of unique destinations to visit, and the Mediterranean city of Larnaca is a welcomed new addition to the airline’s route map.”

Qatar Airways has seen rapid growth in just 16 years of operations, currently flying a modern fleet of 128 aircraft to 133 key business and leisure destinations across Europe, Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific and The Americas.

In 2013, Qatar Airways has launched eleven destinations to date – Gassim (Saudi Arabia), Najaf (Iraq), Phnom Penh (Cambodia), Chicago (USA), Salalah (Oman), Basra (Iraq), Sulaymaniyah (Iraq), Chengdu (China), Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), Ta’if (Saudi Arabia) and most recently Clark Manila International Airport (Philippines).

Over the next few weeks and months, the network will grow further with Hangzhou, China (December 20), Sharjah and Dubai World Central, both in the UAE (March 1, 2014), Philadelphia, USA (April 2, 2014), Edinburgh, Scotland (May 28, 2014) Miami, USA (June 10, 2014) and Dallas, USA (1 July, 2014).

On October 30, 2013, Qatar Airways joined the oneworld Alliance, becoming the only major Gulf carrier to join a global airline alliance, enabling its customers to benefit from almost a thousand airports in more than 150 countries, with 14,000 daily departures.
