RelayRides launches free airport parking at San Francisco International Airport

Renters arriving at SFO Airport save up to 40 percent on car rentals using RelayRides.

SAN FRANCISCO – RelayRides announced an expansion of its airport service to provide RelayRides members with free parking at San Francisco International Airport when they rent out their cars. The free parking service, which provides travellers with convenient transportation to and from the airport as well as a free car wash, builds on RelayRides’ existing airport marketplace that allows owners and renters to coordinate rentals themselves at or near over 180 airports nationwide.

RelayRides’ free airport parking is full of features that will make travel a breeze. A fast and free parking lot shuttle will take approximately three minutes to get from the new RelayRides SFO lot to the terminal, making it incredibly efficient for owners to park their vehicles and make it to their flights on time. Travellers parking at the RelayRides lot will receive completely free parking at SFO, a significant reduction in price when compared to fees that can quickly top one hundred dollars. As an added perk, every car rented from SFO will receive a complimentary car wash, so car owners ride back home in style.

RelayRides’ existing airport feature has already helped accelerate the marketplace’s rapid expansion. July 2013 was RelayRides’ biggest month in terms of revenue, surpassing the previous high set in June 2013 by over 50 percent. With plans already in place to expand the free parking program to other airports throughout the United States, airport rentals may be the source of the majority of RelayRides’ total revenue within one year.

“Since we started RelayRides, our renters and owners have inspired most innovations in our marketplace, including a more convenient and affordable solution for airport rentals,” said CEO Andre Haddad. “As our marketplace has matured, we’ve seen our owners and renters look to facilitate longer weekly, and even monthly rentals. We’re very excited to be able to provide our community more ways to share their cars, and save time and resources.”

Travelers renting vehicles through the RelayRides marketplace can expect savings of up to 40 percent versus traditional car rental companies and will be able to access over 500 makes and models of vehicles – from Audi A5s to BMW Z3s. The new airport parking and rental initiative will have the same rules as all RelayRides rentals today, where renters are required to replace the gas they use and purchase insurance based on their needs. Additionally, all pre-screened renters will be able to choose their level of insurance coverage and enjoy 24-hour roadside assistance.

This latest product enhancement builds on a year of continuous growth for RelayRides. Since its national launch in 2012, the company’s peer-to-peer marketplace has expanded rapidly to serve tens of thousands of members renting thousands of cars in more than 1,600 cities nationally. In July, total rental reservation volume increased 450 percent over the same period the previous year.
