Renfe-SNCF en Cooperation high-speed trains turn 10

More than 6 million travellers have used the high-speed services between Spain and France during 10 years of operation.

BARCELONA – The High-Speed Railway that unites Spain and France is turning 10, having transported more than 6.1 million travellers aboard the more than 30,000 trains that have run in both directions through the Perthus Tunnel to connect more than 20 cities in Spain and France. 

During these 10 years, the main French destinations were Paris, Montpellier and Perpignan, accounting for around 70% of the demand. In Spain, the main destination was Barcelona, accounting for 68% of the international demand, followed by Costa Brava (Figueras and Girona) with 27%. The service began with two daily trains. Currently, prior to the pandemic, four services ran daily in each direction, with up to six during the summer.

The clients who use the high-speed international services are 29% French residents, 24% Spanish residents and 47% travellers from other countries. High-Speed Rail services have mainly been used for tourism, which accounts for 55%, and clients have a satisfaction level greater than 85%.
