Responsible Tourism, a boost to the future of Travel sector in Egypt

Due to what the message of Responsible Tourism holds of highly ethical aims for the society and for the travel sector, Crocodile Egypt Travel and Egypt Concierge took the responsibility of supporting and promoting Responsible tourism by being the first two agencies to support Responsible Tourism in Middle East.

Travel sector worldwide is witnessing dramatic and obvious changes that affect the sector itself and the economy of all countries that depend on tourism as one of the main sources of income. This sector is sensitive and essential is also witnessing opportunities, threats, strengths and weaknesses.

Regarding of what the Egyptian tourism sector is suffering from due to political and internal instability from one side and global economic challenges that affects the tourist’s decision from another side, the Egyptian economy is facing significant weakness as tourism is the second source of income of foreign currency after Suez Canal.

This situation is not limited only on Egypt, but also expanding to all countries that their economy primarily depends on tourism as the first source of income that is affected by internal and external influences.

To get through this crisis, the United Nations World Travel Organization (UNWTO) has established a new form of tourism which is Responsible Tourism that is based on the tourist’s responsibility to the destination in many fields, economic, social, creating peace and establishing dialogue with hosts. Accordingly, Responsible Tourism has been established by Cape Town Declaration in 2002 which aims to the following:

  • Minimizes negative economic, environmental, and social impacts;
  • Generates greater economic benefits for local people and enhances the well-being of host communities, improves working conditions and access to the industry;
  • Involves local people in decisions that affect their lives and life chances;
  • Makes positive contributions to the conservation of natural and cultural heritage, to the maintenance of the world’s diversity;
  • Provides more enjoyable experiences for tourists through more meaningful connections with local people, and a greater understanding of local cultural, social and environmental issues;
  • Provides access for physically challenged people; and
  • Is culturally sensitive, engenders respect between tourists and hosts, and builds local pride and confidence.

“Responsible tourism supports not only travel sector but also the entire society due to what Cape Town declaration holds of high ethical and volunteer activities to support the whole society to cooperation in order to rise with the field of tourism, increase life standard and spreading peace.
