Royal Hawaiian Center unveils Waikiki’s newest public rooftop following extensive expansion

Ka Lewa Lānai welcomes visitors for bespoke special events and experiences.

WAIKĪKĪ, HAWAII – Royal Hawaiian Center, Waikīkī’s premier shopping, dining, entertainment, and cultural destination, announces the opening of Ka Lewa Lānai, a newly expanded rooftop for special events and atmospheric private gatherings. The new open-air space is available for the public to rent for customized celebrations of all sizes.

“We are thrilled to welcome locals and visitors to our stunning new outdoor gathering space. We chose the word ‘Lewa,’ Hawaiian for sky, atmosphere, and upper heavens, for the name of the rooftop, because the beautiful Hawaiian sky, day or night, is sure to add the natural beauty of Hawai’i to any special event,” said Marleen Akau, VP, General Manager of Royal Hawaiian Center.

Tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Waikīkī, Ka Lewa Lānai is located on the topmost level of Building A, currently providing 5,091 square feet of al fresco event space. Overlooking the famed Kalākaua Avenue with subtle vantage points of the Ko’olau Mountain Range, the outdoor oasis features a spacious gathering area bordered with a picture-perfect bridge flanked by vibrant Bougainvillea blossoms. The rooftop is coated with faux turf and accent floor tiling creating an appealing design.

Ka Lewa Lānai serves as a dynamic space for both public and private gatherings, including Royal Hawaiian Center’s complimentary guest programming. On March 2, visitors can experience dazzling up-close views of the moon, planets, and stars at the Center’s monthly Rooftop Stargazing event series.

Starting March 16, Mālama Hawai’i Maker’s Market, the Hawaii-based pop-up marketplace featuring a curated collection of local artists, makers, designers, collectors, and food vendors will be held at Ka Lewa Lānai. Formerly held on the third floor of the Center, the market will upgrade to the rooftop as a monthly event displaying the finest local, island-inspired array of hand-made treasures.

Ka Lewa Lānai is open daily from 10 a.m. – 9 p.m. To arrange a site visit or book an upcoming event, contact Helene “Sam” Shenkus, VP, Director of Marketing.
