A new partner has joined the cruise network, Cruise Baltic. It is a happy reunion, as Sassnitz has previously been a part of the network and has now returned. With this new German partner, the total number of cruise ports and destinations hits 32 – the highest ever.
The 32nd partner to join the Cruise Baltic network is the town Sassnitz, which is a gateway to the spectacular island Rügen. Sassnitz is centrally located in the southwestern part of the Baltic Sea close to the main ship routes making it a perfect transit call for cruise ships in the Baltic Sea Region.
Whether cruise guests are into hiking or biking, Sassnitz is a starting point for many tours into the National Park with gleaming white chalk cliffs and ancient beech forests protected by UNESCO. The island Rügen also offers several remarkable nature experiences such as beautiful sandy beaches and enchanting countryside landscape. Other great experiences are visiting resplendent seaside resorts, seeing superb architecture, enjoying rejuvenating spas and discovering a plethora of sights.

An advantage for the cruise lines is that Sassnitz has a favourable geographical location that offers the shortest sea connection from Germany to Scandinavia, Russia and the Baltic states,” says Thomas Langlotz, Managing Director, Port of Sassnitz.
The Sassnitz city port offers exclusive berthing for small to medium-sized cruise ships and the Mukran Port, located six km from the city port, provides ideal berthing conditions for medium and large cruise ships. The port is accessible without obligation for pilot services and channel navigation.
Sassnitz is well-known for its beautiful villas built in the style of the seaside-resort architecture. Also, Artisan workshops, ship chandlers and sail makers, museums and shops with regional products are to be found beside the fish shops and restaurants. A stroll along Europe’s longest outer pier with its 1,444 metres across the Baltic Sea will be rewarded with a tasty marinated or smoked fish bun.
