Scribd launches new travel e-books category with Lonely Planet partnership

Subscribers can now access hundreds of travel guides for just one low monthly price.

SAN FRANCISCO – Scribd, an e-book subscription service featuring 300,000+ e-books ranging from contemporary bestsellers to beloved classics, launched its new travel category by announcing an unprecedented partnership with Lonely Planet, the world’s leading travel media company. The deal makes hundreds of Lonely Planet‘s award-winning travel guidebooks available as part of Scribd’s low monthly subscription cost. Along with this partnership, Scribd announced a new feature, the ability to bookmark pages within a book, allowing travelers easy access to bookmarked content during their travels. Travelers can sync their bookmarks seamlessly across all of their devices and take advantage of Scribd’s offline reading feature, saving the guidebooks on their devices in order to access on the go, even without an Internet connection.

“Travel is the perfect category for e-books. Not only does having an e-book at one’s fingertips lighten a traveler’s load while on the go, Scribd offers a great value by enabling readers to access all of the Lonely Planet guides in one all-you-can-read subscription,” said Trip Adler, CEO and co-founder of Scribd. “Lonely Planet publishes some of my favorite travel guides, and I know our readers will appreciate having such an inspiring and trusted source available across all of their devices-Apple, Android, and Kindle Fire.”

“We are thrilled to work with Scribd, as part of our brand commitment is to make our award-winning content available to consumers in whatever format best suits their needs,” said Darren O’Connell, Product Director of Guidebooks and E-books for Lonely Planet. “Scribd is a fantastic partner for e-book subscription service as they have an amazing reach with more than 80 million users around the world, and a subscriber base that is growing 80 percent month over month.”

All Lonely Planet guidebooks are available immediately at Lonely Planet’s Scribd Profile. Scribd’s travel category not only includes Lonely Planet guide books, but also popular narrative non-fiction for armchair travelers, such as A Thousand Days in Tuscany by Marlena de Blasi, Londoners by Craig Taylor and the New York Times bestselling 1,000 Places to See Before You Die mini-series of guidebooks by Patricia Schultz. Scribd also offers its readers other guidebooks including books from Hunter Publishing and Andrew Delaplaine‘s Long Weekend Guides.

Scribd’s subscription service is available in more than 100 countries and 80 languages, and is compatible across all iOS, Android, and Kindle Fire devices.
