Shrewsbury wins 2012 Coach Friendly Town award

The Confederation of Passenger Transport UK (CPT) has announced that, the town of Shrewsbury has been awarded with their prestigious ‘Coach Friendly Town Award’.

The Confederation of Passenger Transport UK (CPT) has announced that, the town of Shrewsbury has been awarded with their prestigious ‘Coach Friendly Town Award’.

Phil Bateman MBE Regional Manager West Midlands said “Our coach friendly award scheme was launched by the CPT in 2003. The Award was designed to recognise and highlight the work that towns, attractions and local authorities undertake to improve coach access and driver facilities, and at the same time encourage coach tourism within their ‘sphere of interest’.

Within the West Midlands Region – Stratford Upon Avon, Lichfield, The Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site, and last year (2011) Coventry City were all past winners of this important Industry Award.

This award has been very pro-actively used by previous winners in several major travel and tourism marketing campaigns over the years, and winners are of course eligible to use the official ‘Coach Friendly’ award logo on their literature. European coverage of the award is also guaranteed to recipients, with the work that the CPT continues to undertake with our partners on the continent and of course our own UK industry press.

It is appropriate to add that as part of ensuring that this accreditation continues to be justified and can be retained, CPT will continually monitor the feedback received from coach operators on destinations and in addition, unannounced inspections are also conducted by CPT Representatives.”

The Award will be presented to Shrewsbury and their organisation which has been led in partnership by Shrewsbury Tourist Association and Shropshire County Council at the West Midlands Region of the CPT’s Annual Dinner and Awards Ceremony, to be held at The Drayton Manor Hotel, Tamworth, on February 8th 2013.
