Somerset House has appointed three new staff members to its Corporate Events Team, in the run-up to a busy summer season.

Philippa King-Williams joins the historic venue in the newly-created role of Event Manager, boosting the Corporate Events Team to eight full-time members of staff. Philippa comes to Somerset House from the Victoria and Albert Museum, where she worked as Corporate and Private Event Manager. Previously to this, she held various event-related roles at Sage Gateshead including managing a team of eight event co-ordinators and a number of external suppliers.

In her new role at Somerset House, Philippa will be managing a diverse range of events as well as site-wide exhibitions such as Photo London and 1-54 African Art Fair. She will also play a key part in the venue’s Sustainability Group.

Philippa, who recently graduated from the mentorship scheme Fast Forward 15, comments: “I am excited to be a part of this wonderful melting pot of art and culture here at Somerset House and hope to play an integral part in driving forward the venue’s diverse and exciting corporate offer.”

The second new staff member, Gemma Veitch, has been appointed as Event Planner. Gemma spent two years in a similar role for creative agency, Story Events Ltd, where she helped to organise and produce the London Christmas Party Show and the London Summer Event Show.

Gemma, who originally studied costume design at Central St Martin’s and Wimbledon College of Arts, comments: “I am really looking forward to getting stuck into the huge variety of amazing events which Somerset House host every year. Having an artistic background, it is wonderful to work in a venue where creativity is celebrated and nurtured.”

The third new member of the team is Melissa MacDonald, who takes on the role of Events Executive, building on the team’s fast-growing corporate events business while maintaining and growing relationships with clients and accredited suppliers. Previously, she worked as Client Manager at central London meetings and events space company, Wallacespace, where she looked after a portfolio from both social and broadcast media.

Kara Clark, Co-Head of Corporate Events at Somerset House, comments: “We are delighted to be welcoming these three new members of the team in the run-up to our busy summer season. They all possess bags of creativity and are brimming with new ideas to bring to our flourishing team.”
