Research conducted by NOVASOL, Europe’s largest provider of self-catering holiday homes, has revealed Spain as the most popular holiday destination this winter season*, with sales of self-catering holiday home up 15% on the previous year.
Booking data at NOVASOL, which has experienced growth of 27%** this year has revealed France, the most popular holiday destinations in the world, welcoming more than 82m visitors each year, as the second most popular winter destination for Britons, whilst Italy is named the third most popular.
Italy is the third most popular destination for Brits jetting off on a self-catering holiday this winter season, with Novasol witnessing a significant rise in bookings, up 91% on the previous year.
Croatia, which is fast becoming a favourite holiday spot amongst British holidaymakers, is the third most popular destination, with bookings up 46% on the previous year.
Denmark, the most popular holiday destination in the Nordic Region, completes the top five most popular holiday spots for Brits this winter season.

Popular regions
Booking data revealed the Spanish regions of Andalusia and Valencia as the top two most popular, with bookings of self-catering holiday homes across the Valencian region up 36% on the previous year.
The research also revealed the Croatian regions of Split-Dalmatia and the Istria County as popular spots for Britons this winter season, with bookings up 21% and 39% respectively.
British holidaymakers looking for more than just sun
Booking data also shows a that whilst many Britons are jetting off to the sun, there is growing appetite for less typical winter sun destinations, with many British holidaymakers preferring to discover destinations such as Norway, the sixth most popular destinations and Germany (7th) during the winter months.
Self-catering holidays to the Netherlands (8th), Switzerland (9th) and Belgium (10th) are also proving more popular this year, with typical winter sun destinations such as Portugal, no longer in the top 10 most popular destinations.
