Spain reigns in the race for last minute holidays, reveals On the Beach

Research conducted by leading beach holiday specialist On the Beach has revealed Spain is set to enjoy a bumper summer, with the ever-popular destination attracting more Brits to its shores than any other summer sun destination.
 

The last minute holiday booking trends report shows Spain and its islands dominate the top five most popular destinations for bargain hunting Brits looking for a last minute deal, with Majorca, Tenerife, Lanzarote and Ibiza making up the top four spots. The Turkish resort of Dalaman is the fifth most popular destination.
 

Whilst Spain dominates overall, Cyprus has seen the biggest increase in last minute bookings, up 44% on the previous year, followed by Egypt, up 22%. Other destinations showing a significant increase in last minute bookings include Turkey (up 19%), Greece and the Islands (up 17%) and Spain (up 16%).
 

Resorts across Turkey are offering the cheapest deals compared to last year, with last minute holidays  on average, 15% cheaper than last year. The growing destination of Croatia is also cheaper than last year (down 10%), whilst holidays to the Greek resort of Halkidiki and the Balearic Island of Menorca are 6% cheaper than the previous year.
