Starting shot of CBC Bureau to promote the business tourism in the Costa Brava Centre

CBC Convention Bureau wants to achieve that the Costa Brava Center is recognized as headquarters of business tourism: congresses, conventions, fairs and exhibitions and trips of incentive, which in the professional sector is defined as MICE: Meetings, Stimulate, Conferences and Events.

Last year visited the Costa Brava and the Baix Emporda more than two million foreign visitors and near one million and a half state tourists, according to information of the Idescat. But the numbers do not speak about the business tourism, a type of visitor who generates five times more expense than the vacation one. Another advantage is to avoid seasonality of the sector: 80 % of the meetings are celebrated in autumn and in the spring.

To promote the business tourism, there has been created CBC Convention Bureau (Costa Brava Centre Convention Bureau S.L), an entity that watches over the common interests of the sector representing a conglomerate of services.

This Friday the first meeting of the hotel managers associated to CBC has been celebrated at Mas Falet 1682 in Sant Antoni de Calonge. The director of the CBC, Elisabeth Vidal, has valued the meeting very positively: “All the hotel managers have agreed with the need to unify efforts and to promote our territory under the umbrella of the CBC, creating synergies between the local tourist suppliers always focused to the organization of congresses, events, meetings…”

The purpose of a trip or displacement of the MICE client is professional, therefore it has other needs and expects for a more personalized service. According to Spain Convention Bureau, (Statistics of Tourism of Meetings 2010), inside the hotel sector the client, value in order of preference: the treatment, the professionalism, the service of the hotel and finally the relation price – quality.
