tangerine designed ‘Adagio’ delivers the ultimate customer experience for Aviointeriors

New opportunities for high-density business class seats now exist as short-haul aircraft are flying further and the number of types of long-haul aircraft continues to grow.

Adagio, designed by London design consultancy, tangerine, looks to deliver an optimal customer experience in business class and meet this new demand. Optimised for eight abreast, the seats are staggered with a 2-4-2 configuration on the B787, the narrowest of twin aisle aircraft. On wider-bodied jets, increased aisle access gives room for add-on features such as sliding doors that can turn Adagio into a mini-suite.

Adagio offers a format that balances the privacy of an individual seat space without the boxed-in feeling of other seats. The angled IFE screen position gives passengers freedom to move around once they enter their seat space and when the passenger is seated the angle of the bevel provides an optimum viewing distance for the screen. The slide-out single-leaf meal table is generous in size and robust, it can be readily accessed by cabin crew from an aisle-side position for deployment .

In all seat places the footwell is 16” wide, enabling passengers to freely move their feet and turn as they rest, which is essential for good sleep and particularly important for taller passengers. Other seats on the market have as little as a 12” width, which only allows room for one foot.

Aisle access is available for every seat and the outboard window and inboard centre seats provide the airline with the option of an extended bed length.

The overall seat construction has been designed to enable rapid customisation of the design language, enabling Aviointeriors to quickly tailor the product to meet individual customers’ requirements.

Martin Darbyshire said “Adagio is an intelligent solution to what is an increasingly challenging problem. Every airline is looking to raise the bar in the terms of their business offer, but at the same time, there are an increasing diversity of aircraft types being adopted. This range represents a significant challenge for designers and adagio offers a very good, balanced fit, without dramatic change being required.”
