Tenerife sees over 14% rise in visitor arrivals from the UK

From January to May 2013, the largest of the Canary Islands received a total of 630,418 Britons, up 1.8% with respect to 2012 figures. Approximately 1.6 million Brits visit Tenerife each year, making it one of the UK’s favourite holiday destinations.

Latest figures from the Tenerife Tourism Corporation show that visitor arrivals from the UK to the island rose by an incredible 14.2% in the month of May, representing 136,846 arrivals from the biggest source market. From January to May 2013, the largest of the Canary Islands received a total of 630,418 Britons, up 1.8% with respect to 2012 figures.

The south of the island continues to be the most popular hotspot for UK holidaymakers with a total of 133,755 Britons heading to the resorts in this area. However, other areas such as Santa Cruz – the island’s capital city – and the north of Tenerife have also seen a increase in tourism figures in May 2013 compared to the same month last year: +27.3% and +2.3% respectively.

With regards to these positive figures, Pia Louw, Travel Industry and Promotion Director at the Tenerife Tourism Corporation, commented: “We’re thrilled to see these amazing figures and to know that the island continues to be one of the UK’s favourite holiday destinations, despite the current economic situation. Tenerife offers great value for money and we know our island is very popular with those seeking guaranteed sunshine for a competitive price.”

Approximately 1.6 million Brits visit Tenerife each year, making it one of the UK’s favourite holiday destinations. A year round sunny climate, a selection of some of Europe’s highest quality and stunning hotels, superb food and a wide range of diverse activities are just some of the reasons why the island attracts so many visitors to the island, which boasts an unrivalled repeat visitor rate of nearly 80% from the UK market.
