The Carlton Tower Jumeirah opens following an extensive 18-month transformation

$137 million renovation to London’s premier five-star hotel includes larger accommodations and new luxury amenities.

LONDON, ENGLAND – Global luxury hospitality company Jumeriah Group announced its European flagship hotel, The Carlton Tower Jumeirah, opened in the heart of London’s fashionable Knightsbridge district following an extensive 18-month revitalization estimated at $137 million.

Previously known as Jumeirah Carlton Tower, The Carlton Tower Jumeirah launches under a new name to reflect the significance of the most extensive transformation in all its history. Originally designed 60 years ago by Henry End, also responsible for the interiors of New York’s Plaza Hotel, the five-star property was thoughtfully redesigned by 1508 London to cater to a new generation of discerning guests. While respecting the building’s original, clean modernist style, the esteemed design studio layered an eclectic mix inspired by the architecture of surrounding mansion blocks and homes with soft curved edges, pops of bright color and organic inspired forms throughout.

“We are thrilled to welcome back our valued guests following a significant investment and a complete renovation of the hotel, with new rooms, restaurant offerings, spa and lobby entrance,” said Aaron Kaupp, Regional Vice President Northern Europe and General Manager of The Carlton Tower Jumeirah. “With renovations complete, we are confident the hotel will now rank among the world’s best, and we’re thrilled to reestablish ourselves as the place to be seen in London.”

With renovation costs totaling more than $137 million, changes include a new foyer and reception, health club and spa with London’s largest naturally lit swimming pool, flagship restaurant, lobby bar and lounge, ballroom, and meeting rooms. A total of 186 new bedrooms and suites, reduced from a previous 216, now offer more space and natural light, with 87 of the rooms also featuring balconies with spectacular views of the city. Stars and socialites from all over the world can take advantage of the Royal Suite, the hotel’s new and most exclusive residence featuring three bedrooms with the option to privatize the entire floor.

The destination restaurant Al Mare, meaning “at the sea” in Italian, offers a sophisticated yet informal dining experience for guests. Head Chef Marco Calenzo, who has previously worked in Michelin stars from Tokyo to Hawaii, draws from his Italian heritage to design the menu of light and modern Italian fare complemented by a carefully curated wine list and artisanal cocktails. Accessed from the lobby is The Chinoiserie, an all-day dining area that won the prestigious 'Afternoon Tea of the Year' award in 2018 is now transformed with an elegant and light design. The hotel has also partnered with Annabel Karmel, an award-winning children’s cookery and nutrition expert based in the U.K., to design children’s menus at both restaurants.

The Peak Fitness Club & Spa, covering three floors of the hotel, has been completely redesigned with new treatment rooms at the Talise Spa and a revitalized swimming pool with a bright interior and glass ceiling now featuring new cabanas and thermal areas. The exclusive gym overlooking panoramic views of London offers studio classes and the latest exercise equipment for guests. In addition, the hotel sits on Cadogen Gardens, which offers a lush and private green space for additional wellness recreation such as yoga and tennis.

The hotel’s elegant Ballroom on the first-floor seats up to 400 people and can be entered by private entrance or via a grand staircase with a cascading chandelier. In addition, surrounding event space ideal for private meetings and functions include three contemporary meeting rooms boasting natural light and overlooking the gardens.

Centrally located, the Jumeirah Carlton Tower hotel is steps away from luxury shopping at Harrods and Sloane Street, cultural institutions like the Victoria and Albert Museum, and several local restaurants. Flights are offered daily from major U.S. cities on Delta, United, American, and British Airways airlines into The Heathrow, Gatwick, London City, London Luton, and London Stanstead airports, all within an appropriate distance to the hotel. Guests flying in can also enjoy chauffeur services and airport transfers.
