The 'eTourism Innovations in the Digital Era' event

The event, which is part of the ‘Festival of Learning at Bournemouth University’, will consist of a great range of presentations that will include cutting-edge issues like ‘Social Media, Location Based and Mobile (SoLoMo) Marketing’, ‘Augmented Reality and Gaming’ and ‘Online Reputation and E-Branding’.

On Monday, the 10th of June, 2013 the School of Tourism at Bournemouth University will hold a free event called ‘eTourism Innovations in the Digital Era’ showcasing the research undertaken by the eTourism Lab at Bournemouth University.
 
The event, which is part of the ‘Festival of Learning at Bournemouth University’, will consist of a great range of presentations that will include cutting-edge issues like ‘Social Media, Location Based and Mobile (SoLoMo) Marketing’, ‘Augmented Reality and Gaming’ and ‘Online Reputation and E-Branding’. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in the dialogue with tourism, travel, hospitality, as well as technology and marketing professionals on the emerging innovations in the marketplace.
 
The event will start with a welcome at 13:00 o’clock. This will be followed by a presentation session around the ‘eTourism innovations and tourism and hospitality competitiveness’ comprising a great variety of presentations about topics like ’Technology Enhanced Tourist Experiences’,‘Consumer-to-consumer co-creation in the tourism and event experience’ and ‘Branding eWord of Mouth and Online Reputation for tourism and hotels’, which will be presented by members of the eTourism Lab at Bournemouth University. In addition, guest speaker Rowena Revill from DorsetCreative will talk about ‘Innovative applications for tourism business’ followed by Ramona Wagner from DigitalTourismThinkTank who will introduce the results from a recent study about the ‘Benchmark of e-tourism destinations worldwide-Global’.
 
After a short break the event will continue with another session centred on the ‘eTourism Innovations and the future applications and reengineering of travel experience’. Topics of this session will include ‘Smart Tourism Cities and destinations, ‘SoCoMo-Social Context Mobile Services in Tourism and the EU DIG project’ and ‘Augmented Reality Gaming for tourism and hospitality’. Moreover, the guest speakers Laura Mulhern from South West Artwork and Liz Gordon from Brilliantfish will together present their case study on ‘Implementing Gaming at Corfe Castle’.

In the evening all participants of the event are invited to join for drinks and dinner at the Slug and Lettuce Pub in Bournemouth to review the results of a fruitful day and to celebrate with newly made friends.
 
IFITT and the eTourism Lab are looking forward to an exciting day full of vibrant discussions that are relevant in the digital era, which requires tourism organisations and destinations to use information and communication technologies to strengthen their competitiveness.
 
Professor Dimitrios Buhalis, Director of the eTourism Lab at Bournemouth University and President of IFITT said “this is a unique opportunity to engage in the cutting edge research we do at  the university and engage in a dialogue with all our stakeholders on how they can use this research to develop their competitiveness and achieve unique experience propositions. The event is free to attend as part of the Festival of Learning and look forward to welcome people from different backgrounds and experiences to discuss about th future of eTourism”.

The ‘eTourism Innovations in the Digital Era’ event will take place on the Talbot Campus of Bournemouth University on Monday, the 10th of June 2013 from 13:30 to 18:30.
