Three out of four seek value for winter's weekend getaways

BedandBreakfast.com announces top10 winter hot spots

AUSTIN, Texas – When it comes to winter travel, three out of four travelers (75%) are planning one or more weekend getaways this winter, while only 40 percent will take a week-long trip, according to the annual BedandBreakfast.com Winter Travel Trends Survey. New York, Boston and Charleston top the list of popular weekend getaways for bed and breakfast travelers.

Of those planning weekend getaways this winter, nearly three out of four seek value and affordable accommodations (72%) and plan to return to a destination they have visited previously (74%).

The top 10 winter destinations for bed and breakfast travelers who plan to travel between December and February include:

  • New York City
  • Boston
  • Charleston, SC
  • Chicago
  • Asheville, NC
  • New Orleans
  • Key West, FL
  • Fredericksburg, TX
  • London
  • Washington, DC

According to the BedandBreakfast.com survey, 22 percent of travelers plan to take more leisure trips this winter compared to last year, and of these, half are traveling more because it’s easier to get away for long weekends than a week or longer trips, while 10 percent have vacation time they need to use and another 10 percent feel better about the economy and can afford to take more trips.

“Bed and breakfasts are a great choice, whether visiting a large metropolitan city like Boston or Chicago, or quaint, historic towns like Savannah or Fredericksburg,” says Gregory Sion. “Each bed and breakfast is different, with its own charm and personality, providing a real sense of place and discovery for travelers.”

For their winter travel, nearly half plan to stay in a bed and breakfast, with two out of three planning to stay in a different B&B for new experiences. Three out of four (76%) say bed and breakfasts, which generally offer free breakfast, parking, WiFi, and other amenities, provide more value than hotels.

Looking back over the past year, the survey also found more than a quarter of travelers (27%) have stayed in more B&Bs this year than last.
