Tower of London crowned top London attraction in 2014

Between 17th July and 12th November, over 100,000 visitors a day queued to pay their respects to the Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red installation.

LONDON – The Tower of London tops the list of the most popular tourist attractions in the capital in 2014, thanks to increased interest in the Poppy Installation, reveals leading online ticket supplier, 365Tickets. The Tower beat the likes of Windsor Castle, Madame Tussaud’s, Buckingham Palace, and the London Eye, to be crowned the top attraction.

It’s estimated that over five million visitors from around the world visited the First World War commemorative poppy installation, with this being largely responsible for the increase in visitor numbers during 2014.

The number of visitors to the Tower of London tour during the installation Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red doubled in September, and more than tripled in October, compared to the previous year. This led to 365Tickets seeing a year on year ticket increase of 35% compared to figures from 2013.

Between 17th July and 12th November, over 100,000 visitors a day queued to pay their respects to the Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red installation.

It has become the symbol of reflection, a National focus for remembrance. We remember all those who have died in the service of our country; countless numbers, generations of the dead, but we must also remember those who live.”

The installation provided a welcome boost in tourism for the entire region and demonstrated the power the poppies had.

“It’s great that the poppy installation had such an impact on visitors to London,” says Neil Langdon, Marketing Manager at 365Tickets. “It just goes to show how proud we are as a nation of those who serve our country.”
