Travelocity announces Top 10 Memorial Day Destinations of 2014

New York City is in the No. 1 spot for the third year in a row. Florida took two spots on the list this year with South Florida (Miami/Ft. Lauderdale) at No. 2 and Orlando at No. 6.

SOUTHLAKE, TEXAS – As millions of travelers anxiously anticipate Memorial Day and the kick-off of summer, Travelocity‘s latest booking data reveals the top 10 Memorial Day destinations of 2014, with New York City in the No. 1 spot for the third year in a row.

“Early summer is a fantastic time to visit the Big Apple,” said Travelocity Senior Editor, Courtney Scott. “There’s a certain excitement about the city as locals emerge from their winter hibernation and the streets come to life with farmers’ markets, street fairs and concerts in Central Park.”

Florida took two spots on the list this year with South Florida (Miami/Ft. Lauderdale) at No. 2 and Orlando at No. 6. Living up to its “Boston Strong” reputation, Boston jumped three spots this year from No. 10 to No. 7. Absent from last year’s list, Seattle grabs the No. 9 spot.

“While airfares to most of the top 10 destinations have increased over last Memorial Day, fares to Seattle are down 3% and to Boston, they are just about flat,” said Scott. “This could point to their gain in popularity this Memorial Day.”
