TripAdvisor announces world's top landmarks and parks in Travelers' Choice Attractions Awards

Machu Picchu #1 landmark in the world and Gettysburg best in the U.S., according to millions of TripAdvisor traveler reviews and opinions.

NEWTON, MASS. – TripAdvisor announced the winners of its Travelers’ Choice awards for Attractions, highlighting the top landmarks and parks around the globe. In the second year of the awards for these categories, 929 winners were identified, including the top 25 in the world and dedicated lists for Asia, Australia, Canada, China, Europe, India, Mexico, South America, the South Pacific, the U.K. and the U.S.

“TripAdvisor travelers have helped identify some of the best attractions around the globe,” said Barbara Messing, chief marketing officer for TripAdvisor. “These award-winning landmarks and parks are an ideal starting point for taking in the world’s must-see sights.”

Travelers’ Choice awards honor top travel spots worldwide based on the millions of valuable reviews and opinions from TripAdvisor travelers. Award winners were determined using an algorithm that took into account the quantity and quality of reviews for landmark and park attractions worldwide, gathered over a 12-month period.

Europe Tops World Landmark Tally; NYC and D.C. Dominate U.S. List
With nine of the top 25 world landmarks, Europe is the region best represented on the landmarks list. The Big Apple and the Nation’s Capital account for 11 of the top 25 on the U.S. list.

U.S. Places First in the World for Parks; Over One Third of U.S. List in the West
Eight of the top 25 world parks are found in the U.S., including the Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs at #2. With a total of nine winners, the American West lays claim as the region with the most winners on the U.S. list.
