TripAdvisor to establish largest engineering hub outside the USA in Ireland

At least 50 core web engineering roles to be targeted in Dublin.

DUBLIN, IRELAND – The Minister for Jobs, Enterprise & Innovation, Richard Bruton TD joined TripAdvisor to announce that the world’s largest travel website is to establish a new engineering hub in Dublin. The hub is the largest of its kind to be established outside of the United States by TripAdvisor, and will see at least 50 high quality web engineering roles created in the short term alone.

The company is to locate in the area known as Silicon Docks and recruitment for the new positions will begin immediately. The Dublin hub will be a centre for key engineering roles globally, working closely with TripAdvisor’s world-class team of engineers in the US to deliver new and improved features to TripAdvisor’s platforms – including its core TripAdvisor websites, Vacation Rentals, and TripAdvisor for Business products.

Making the joint announcement Minister Bruton said: “The ICT sector is at the heart of the Government’s Action Plan for Jobs, and in recent years we have seen jobs growth in this area as the biggest names on the internet decide to locate operations in Ireland. Today I am delighted to welcome the announcement that TripAdvisor is coming to Dublin. This is a company which has revolutionised the travel industry and one of the fastest growing businesses on the internet, and today’s announcement confirms our status as the internet capital of Europe. I wish TripAdvisor every success here”.

Andy Gelfond, SVP Engineering and Operations, TripAdvisor said: “As a global and growing company, we need to expand the places where we can find best-in-class talent. Given the robust roles we are looking to recruit, we felt it was important to base our new engineering hub in a location that had a history of supporting technology and innovation, and had a talent pool to recruit from, and in that respect Dublin fits the bill perfectly.”

“Establishing our first European engineering hub in Dublin is a significant milestone for our company and IDA Ireland was extremely helpful to us in making it easy to establish our operations here. This a great time for talented people to join us and share in the opportunities our growth presents for everyone in our company.”

Welcoming the announcement, Barry O’Leary, CEO of IDA Ireland said; “We are very pleased to see TripAdvisor establishing its core Engineering operations in Europe here in Dublin. The company will provide excellent career opportunities for highly skilled engineers. TripAdvisor will be joining all of the top 10 ‘born on the internet companies’ in making a decision to locate in Dublin.”

Lars Holzman has been selected as Engineering Site Manager of the new Dublin hub, and is tasked with overseeing the integration of the new office into TripAdvisor’s global network, including working closely with TripAdvisor’s existing world-class engineering team in the US. Lars most recently managed the team responsible for TripAdvisor’s Metasearch feature, a major site enhancement that allows users to see real-time hotel room prices and availability from a range of booking partners, all on one page.
