UK travel trends for 2016 revealed

A recent review of current booking trends by Sykes Cottages suggested a trend towards booking in advance, with the majority of respondents believing customers were more inclined to book their holidays ahead in the past two years.

Mobile booking, budget breaks and added value have all been identified as key trends for the future of domestic holidays in Britain by Sykes Cottages.

From the booking habits of Britons, to key qualities we are looking for in a holiday, Sykes Cottages has identified the key trends it thinks will move forward into 2016, all of which have formed part of the Sykes Cottages Travel Trends report.

With over 25 years of experience letting holiday homes, Sykes Cottages has established itself as the UK’s leading independent agency with over 100,000 holidays booked each year. This trusted relationship with customers provides Sykes Cottages with an in depth insight into holiday breaks in the UK.

Customers are also showing increasing confidence in online channels, as usage has risen in recent years. Miles Hill, Sykes Cottages Chief Executive, said: “Customers are comfortable booking and paying for holidays online, and increasingly using mobile devices as 4G coverage becomes more widespread and brands adapt websites to be more mobile friendly.”

4G allows consumers complete privacy, security and safety in comparison to unsecure networks. UK mobile operator EE has pledged to bring double-speed 4G to 90 percent of the population by 2017*, which will greatly affect the booking habits of British holidaymakers.

Sykes Cottages also identified holidays based on a budget as another key trend for holidays of the future in Britain. Shelley D’Arcy, UK Property Manager said: “I believe more and more people will try UK holidays based on budget and the opportunity to see more of what is on offer to us on our doorstep.”

“As with any product, people want more for less and therefore have a high expectation. I think more customers are seeking that perfect luxury cottage or even something a little quirky. I myself wouldn’t mind trying out one of our high spec yurts!”

Miles Hill says: “Over the years I have seen consumers become much more interested in what they are going to do whilst on holiday and increasingly customers expect much more than ‘just a base’. “

“The rise in the availability and choice of activities available in the UK means that customers are now planning everything, from where they are going to eat out or go mountain biking, before their break starts.”
