United Airlines resumes seasonal service between Athens and New York/Newark

Seasonal service between Athens and Washington D.C. set to resume in May 2022.

ATHENS – United Airlines has resumed its daily nonstop seasonal service between Athens and New York/Newark. The service is planned to operate until 29 October 2022 and will be joined next month by United’s daily nonstop seasonal service from Athens to Washington D.C., set to start on 7 May 2022.

“We are delighted to return to Athens in 2022 and resume nonstop services from Greece to the United States,” said Bob Schumacher, United Director Sales. “With the return of service to New York and next month to Washington D.C., our customers in Greece can take advantage of direct connections to the U.S., as well as an unrivalled route network from United’s hubs at New York/Newark and Washington Dulles, which offer convenient nonstop connections to over 95 destinations across the Americas. Starting in May, both flights will be operated with Boeing 787 Dreamliners, offering customers the latest in comfort and service, featuring the all-aisle access United Polaris suite and the United Premium Plus cabin.”

United’s service from Athens to New York/Newark is currently operated with Boeing 767-400 aircraft, featuring 39 United Polaris SM business, 70 Economy Plus SM , and 131 economy seats. Effective 7 May 2022, the route will be operated with Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner aircraft, featuring 44 all-aisle-access United Polaris business, 21 United Premium Plus, 54 Economy Plus SM and 199 economy seats.

United’s service from Athens to Washington Dulles will be operated with Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft, featuring 28 all-aisle-access United Polaris business, 21 United Premium Plus, 36 Economy Plus and 158 economy seats.

The revolutionary design of the Dreamliner offers customers many features for increased comfort, such as large windows, spacious overhead storage and modern LED lighting to simulate a full day, helping passengers adjust their internal clock on the transatlantic flight. In addition, a lower cabin altitude, cleaner air and smoother ride help customers feel rested on arrival. United Polaris business class is a premium travel experience that prioritises relaxation and comfort, featuring quality inflight dining, premium amenity kits and full flat-bed seats.

United has been serving Greece with summer seasonal flights since 2016. In addition to the daily seasonal service from Athens to Washington Dulles which began in 2021, United offers a daily seasonal service from Athens to New York/Newark. United customers in Greece can book

United in New York/Newark
Located just 14 miles from Manhattan, Newark Liberty International Airport offers the fastest surface transfer journeys to many parts of the city, including the AirTrain service to New York Penn Station in midtown Manhattan, with a journey time of less than 30 minutes.

United in Washington Dulles
United currently operates over 200 daily flights to over 100 destinations across the United States and around the world from its Washington Dulles hub. Washington Dulles serves as the international gateway to the U.S. capital, with United service to 19 world capitals and 27 countries planned for Summer 2022.

journey, with the goal of delivering an industry-leading standard of cleanliness through its
United  CleanPlus programme. United has teamed up with Clorox and Cleveland Clinic to
redefine cleaning and health safety procedures from check-in to landing and has implemented
more than a dozen new policies, protocols and innovations designed with the safety of customers
and employees in mind. Customers can review COVID-19 entry requirements, find local testing
options and upload any required testing and vaccination records for domestic and international

United Next 
United is more focused than ever on its commitment to customers and employees. In addition
to today's announcement, United has recently: 

  • Launched an ambitious plan to transform the United customer experience by adding and upgrading hundreds of aircraft as well as investing in features like larger overhead bins, seatback entertainment in every seat and the industry’s fastest available Wi-Fi.  
  • Announced a goal to create 25,000 unionized jobs by 2026 that includes careers as pilots, flight attendants, agents, technicians, and dispatchers.
