Are we there yet? Generations of parents have heard the question, and now a new national survey reveals that the one thing kids like best about summer road trips is simply arriving at their destination.

According to the survey, which asked 500 parents about their children`s travel habits during summer road trips, nearly a third of all kids think arriving at their destination is the best part of the trip. A quarter just appreciates getting away from home.

The survey, commissioned by Cendant Corporation`s Hotel Group and Denny`s restaurants to launch their Drive-Inn America travel promotion, also showed that kids really like eating hamburgers, hiking at national parks and staying at hotels.

Scheduled to launch May 22, Drive-Inn America encourages families to hit the road by offering free kids meals at Denny`s restaurants, daily chances to win portable DVD players and packages featuring national park admission.

Every parent knows that food is key to a successful summer vacation on the road. According to the survey, the menu items kids like best are hamburgers and soft drinks, favored by two-thirds, and fries and juice, the pick of one third.

Yellowstone and the Grand Canyon got the highest marks among national parks. Favorite activities while visiting national parks are hiking, camping and swimming.

To avoid boredom on the road, nearly half of the parents surveyed said their kids play video games or listen to music. More than a quarter of kids watch DVD movies or read books to wile away the hours in the car.

Nearly 15 percent of parents surveyed said their children like staying at hotels and spending time with family.
