Visit Florida, the exclusive tourism marketing corporation for the State of Florida, has approved up to $500,000 in co-operative marketing with The PGA of America. Visit Florida will manage the program and will announce it on Monday, August 15, during the Governor`s Conference on Tourism, in Hollywood, Fla.

Golf provides jobs for 72,000 Floridians, recreational activities to millions of the State`s residents and is a key economic driver for Florida, said Dr. Dale Brill, chief marketing officer for Visit Florida. This initiative recognizes the role Florida`s golf courses play in attracting visitors to the State and explores opportunities to increase tourism through golf.

The PGA of America is proud to call Florida home and we look forward to working with Visit Florida on leveraging the State`s tremendous golf assets to increase tourism and golf participation,
said Jim L. Awtrey, Chief Executive Officer of the Palm Beach Gardens-based PGA of America.

A new television series on The Golf Channel is the first initiative planned for the campaign in its inaugural year. The series, to be made up of between nine and 13 weekly 30-minute shows, is being developed by Orlando-headquartered network The Golf Channel. The shows, which will feature Florida`s unique golf destinations and attractions, is tentatively scheduled to run from October 2005 through May 2006.

We`re looking forward to bringing our millions of viewers around the world a visual showcase of the best of Florida through the lifestyle of golf, said The Golf Channel President David Manougian.

More than 1,300 golf courses support the state`s $4.4 billion golf industry. The 79.8 million visitors to the state account for one-third of the rounds played in Florida each year. The PGA of America, founded in 1916, is a not-for-profit organization that promotes the game of golf, while continuing to enhance the standards of the profession. The Association is comprised of more than 28,000 men and women PGA Professionals including 3,304 in Florida.
