New York is the most Instagrammed autumnal city in the world, followed by Paris, Chicago and Moscow. The USA is the best country to visit in autumn, with five American cities featuring in the top 20.
As the summer nights draw in and leaves begin to fall, Premier Inn has researched over 350 global cities on Instagram to reveal the cities people are most inspired to visit and photograph during the autumn season. The number of hashtags for #autumnin(city) and #fallin(city) were counted and compared for cities in the UK, USA, Australia and New Zealand, Europe, Africa, South America, Asia and the Middle East.
The USA’s Big Apple is the most popular autumntime city amongst users of the social media platform, with over 151,000 hashtags for New York during the fall season. Paris comes in second place, followed by Chicago, Moscow and Seoul.
A spokesperson from Premier Inn commented “The autumn season is a beautiful time of year for a city-break both in the UK and further afield; the rush and crowds of summer have often departed, allowing travellers to enjoy city-sights, fine dining and urban activities during the quieter season. Instagram is the perfect place for holiday inspiration and New York is an idyllic place to explore during fall, but it’s great to see cities from so many different continents feature in the top 20, from Asian cities like Seoul and Kyoto to European cities Paris and Rome”.
Prettiest Autumnal Cities in the US
As summer in the city draws to a close, New York becomes the most popular city in the US for autumn Instagramming, as well as the world. It’s a great time to take a stroll through Central Park or New York Botanical Garden as the colours of the trees begin to turn to beautiful oranges and browns. In second place, Chicago is another favourite option for autumn snaps, with Seattle, Boston and Miami also making up the top five.
