Visit Britain and Expedia launch Bespoke Video Player for #OMGB campaign

The video player is a technology-forward component of this multi-platform, full-funnel campaign which spans from traditional TV advertising to a customized digital content platform featuring a booking engine. The technology brings the diversity of Great Britain to life, allowing VisitBritain and Expedia to show, not tell, users why they should book a trip to the U.K.

Visit Britain and Expedia Media Solutions announced the next iteration of their multi-year #OMGB campaign, with the launch of a bespoke video player – the first to utilize a smartphone’s gyroscope and compass as a way for users to navigate and engage with content.

  • Campaign Concept: The video player showcases linear narratives highlighting the ‘best of’ sport, nightlife, fashion, adventure, and more, through characters representing five destinations across the U.K. including in London, Cornwall, Wales, Manchester and the Scottish Highlands. It expands on content from the humorous co-branded TV advertisement that ran in December and is a follow up to the 365 Days of #OMGB campaign launched last fall. 
  • How the Video Player Works: Developed with creative agency 180LA and featuring a video directed by Tim & Joe, the video player allows users to toggle between five featured destinations by simply tilting the smartphone in a different direction. For example, when a user tilts their phone north, they’ll be taken to the Highlands. Users on desktop or tablet devices can switch films using keys and swipe. The five video clips are synchronized with one another, with action and dialogue seamlessly transitioning from one scene to the next. After engaging with the content, users are presented with a customized itinerary specific to the location that they spent the most time interacting with in the player.
